Lagos - Ponta da Piedade walking trail route
The section of the Trilho dos Pescadores trail that we can start directly in town is about 3 km counting from the center of Lagos to Ponta da Piedade. If you feel like an even longer walk, you can continue the trail all the way to Praia da Luz (another 11 km) and then either return the same way or by public transportation or uber. The trail is very well marked with signs in green and blue.

The Lagos-Ponta da Piedade walking trail is one of the most beautiful routes in the Algarve. It runs past 5 picturesque beaches. The first beach you will see along the way is Praia da Batata located by the town itself.

The next beach on the trail is Praia dos Estudentes, with the remains of a Roman bridge and tunnels in the cliffs. It’s worth going down to the beach to see the tunnels.

The next vantage point is the small, charming Praia do Pinhão beach.

Walking further we reach one of the more famous beaches in Lagos , Praia da Dona Ana. It is a large beach with a restaurant and numerous sun loungers.

Another vantage point and a must-see stop is one of the most recognizable and popular beaches in all of Portugal, Praia do Camilo. The beach itself is reached by a staircase that has almost 200 steps. Praia do Camilo, is a very touristy beach, so you can expect crowds of tourists here during the day. The best time to experience the beach is early in the morning. Sunrise is amazing at Praia do Camilo. There are two, distinctive rocks in the ocean that resemble a kissing couple.

The final stop on the trail is the famous Cape of Mercy(Ponta da Piedade). At the lighthouse there is a small cafe where we can have a coffee or a cold drink and a snack. A lot of people stay on the cliffs to admire the sunset.

To return to the city, you can take the same route along the coast or walk along the street that runs from Ponta da Piedade.
